Samoa Islands Essay Samoa is a group of islands located in the south pacific, approximately halfway between New Zealand and Hawaii. It consists of two main islands, Upolu and Savaii. Samoa is well-known for its natural beauty and landscape. Samoa is very much a tourist destination. Tourists are attracted to the strong commitment to sport, Samoan cuisine, Samoan lifestyle, natural attractions, and traditional aspects such as tattooing and ceremonial occasions. Although, on the contrary, Samoa has big disadvantages for being located in the pacific region as natural disasters are a reoccurrence in its history. The most recent being the 2009 Tsunami, killing approximately 200 people. The Samoan reputation has also recently become corrupted because of unsettling between Samoans and Tongans. Although this is news to Australians, this conflict between Samoa and Tonga has a long history behind it. Religion Samoa is mostly a Christian country. The law is very much based on Christian ethics and churches are located in every village. The most common denominations are EFKS, Mormonism, Catholicism and Assembly of God. Only recently are modern churches such as Pentecostal Christian churches and even Muslim. Religion is very much apart of Samoan culture, and practiced within the family unit. Sport Samoans enjoy lots of sports, for example popular sports include volley ball, touch footy, cricket and rugby union. Samoans have had teams compete in the Commonwealth Games; they have won gold medals for weightlifting and bronze medal in athletics. Samoans also have a successful national rugby team, Manu Samoa, who won the Rugby Sevens last year. Tattoos The traditional Samoan tattooing is called the pe’a, the body tattoo. Originally, the pe’a was only tattooed on those Samoans with a ‘matai’ title, which is a chief role where they are named representatives of their families or villages. So the ‘matai’ title was traditionally extremely respected within the Samoan culture.

The play 'Macbeth' by William Shakespeare gives the audience plenty of opportunities to consider the reasons for Macbeth's actions, whither he had turned mad, or he was just simply bad. I will look at to the extent to which Macbeth is responsible for his own actions, as well as the contributions of other characters through an analysis of the playwright's dramatic techniques. After studying the play in detail I feel that although Macbeth was encouraged at the start he started planning executions on his own and by the end of the play, Macbeth's downfall showed him to be a bloody butcher. The play is about a ?golden couple,? Macbeth and Lady Macbeth. Macbeth encounters witches who prophecies Macbeth as a king. This spurs them both to kill the king and over time power gets to them and Macbeth becomes a cold hearted butcher. The character of Macbeth is very complicated, which makes it difficult to arrive at a definite decision about how much he is to blame. At the start of the play Macbeth is held in high regard by many people. An example of this is when a sergeant from the army describes his as ? For brave Macbeth - well he deserves that name? He is also thought of as a respected cousin by the king who calls him ? O worthiest cousin? , this shows us that Macbeth was valued by many people as the Thane of Glamis. When Macbeth and Banquo meet the witches, Macbeth seems intrigued. On three occasions Macbeth demands to know more ? Speak, I charge you.? Banquo however does not want to hear what these witches have to say. This shows us that Macbeth is weak and vain, as he likes what the witches have to say. Macbeth is far too easily seduced and completely taken in by these witches. When Macbeth objects to Duncan?s murder this is letting us see that Macbeth has a conscience, ? We will proceed no further in this business.? Although he is persuaded afterwards he feels extremely guilty , ?I?ll go no more, I am afraid to think what I have done.? If Macbeth was such a bloody butcher, then why would he think twice about killing Duncan and afterwards why would he feel guilty ? A particular technique Shakespeare uses to make Macbeth seem more human is soliloquy. This lets the audience know what Macbeth is feeling and what he is thinking about.

Are sports beneficial or detrimental to youth? Why and how? When and where? A lot of questions have been asked either by parents or by other people who are doing this type of research. Although the physical exercise provided by sports is essential, there are many other benefits both immediate and long-term. According to the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, â€Å"somewhere between 16 and 33 percent of American children are obese† (â€Å"American Academy†). â€Å"But children who play sports are far more likely to maintain a healthy weight and avoid the many health risks that come with being overweight† (â€Å"Family Resource†).It is beneficial but from the research I looked at and my own opinion, I feel that most children drop out or do not play because of lack of interest or other reasons. Those â€Å"risks multiply when a person becomes obese early in life†, so it's important to get your child involved in sports early (â€Å"ARE Competitive†). Another way sports are beneficial to kids is that it teaches them how to set goals and work to achieve them. As the kid works harder at his craft, his results will improve and he'll learn the value and results of goals and hard work.Many children are naturally shy or averse to immersing themselves in unfamiliar social settings. Sports encourage kids to interact with their peers, and through that osmosis they learn different techniques and realities involved in making friends and dealing with adversity. A study done by America Sports Data Inc. found that, in youth organized sports, 69% of all parents want their children to play only one sport. If the child is between six and eight years old, 79% of those parents want their chil d to play only one sport. Of all the sports organization in 2004, 44% of the children stated they only wanted to play one sport† (â€Å"Why Are†). â€Å"To avoid burnout Children should wait until high school before specializing in a sport. There is no doubt that youth sports have become a huge force in society† (â€Å"Family Resource†). Techniques Used by Law Enforcement Officers to Catch...

Law enforcement officers have used multiple techniques over the years to try to catch criminals in the act. One such technique is the use of undercover officers, who work in the field to gain information under a false persona. This tactic is often used to catch child predators in online chat rooms. These men and women of the law pose as young boys and girls in an effort to catch a predator before they can harm another child. In the course of the transcript we were to read for class, the officer posed as a 12-year-old girl. To convince the predator jazzeman04 that he was talking to a 12-year-old girl the officer placed a deceptive picture on â€Å"her† profile. The strategies of using common chat room jargon, leaving the conversation gap for a few minutes at a time, and pretending to spe ak to â€Å"her† mother multiple times would lead many to believe they are truly speaking to a young girl. Leaving the conversation gap from time to time allows the officer to prove that the other individual was leading the conversation, and wanted to speak to â€Å"her†. The only thing I could see in this conversation that may appear as entrapment is when the officer is asking if jazzeman04 is being serious on meeting â€Å"her†. These questions could be seen in either light of the argument. Defense could argue that it is entrapment, trying to make sure his client shows up at the sting. Prosecution could argue that those kinds of questions would be normal for anyone young girl that wants to meet her new friend. I personally would stand with the prosecution on the matter because the officer in no way had led the conversation up to this point.
